N is for The Nations

Why is The NeighborhoodCalled The Nations?

This area was named for theChickasaw Nations, a Native American nation that lived in the area and traded with the early settlers in the eighteenth century. The Chickasaw leader Piomingo and his tribe allied with the settlers in 1780.

In 1783, James Robertson and the tribe leaders met at the Treaty Oak to sign a pact guaranteeing the Chickasaw’s rights in exchange for help in protecting Nashvillian settlements.

The Treaty Oak once stood where Louisiana avenue and 61stavenue meet!
